how i shoot your wedding rings

Documenting a couple’s jewelry is just one part of my day, but it never ceases to be interesting. (c) jocelyn mathewes

I love how these two vertical ring shots have very different feels, although they’re both shot on a dark background. One is simple, to accent the complexity of the ring design, and the other incorporates a whimsical cake topper.

The next two shots used a combination of ambient lighting and little hand-held LED lights that I keep on hand for funsies.

In that last shot, I used a little notecard that was on the couple’s cupcake table.

Ring shots can be the most variable part of the wedding day–rings are small and portable, and come in an almost endless variety of styles. Some can stand on end easily, and others fit together like a puzzle. It means I almost never know what I’m going to do with the rings ahead of time, but that’s the exciting part.
